Use join-as-you-go method to join granny squares to each other. Make the first Square, then join each square together as you work.

SQUARE (MAKE 16)

Make 1 in nine different colours.

FIRST SQUARE

Using yarn of choice, ch4.
Round 1 (RS): 2tr in fourth ch from hook, ch2, (3tr in same ch, ch2) 3 times, ss to top of beg ch-3.
12tr,4ch−2sps12 tr, 4 ch-2 sps
Fasten off.

For subsequent Squares, join to previous Squares by replacing ch-2 corner sp with (ch1, ss in ch-2 sp on adjacent square, ch1).

BORDER

With RS facing, join final colour in any st.
Round 1 (RS): Ch3 (counts as first tr), *tr in each st and ch-sp to corner, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) in ch-2 corner sp, rep from * around, ss to top of beg ch-3.
64sts,4ch−2sps64 sts, 4 ch-2 sps
Fasten off and weave in ends.
