Round 1: Ch 3, work 2 dc in the circle. Ch 2, dc 3 in the circle, repeat from * to make a total of six 3-dc clusters, ch 2, slip stitch in the 3rd chain of the initial ch 3 to join the round.
Round 2: Slip stitch to the next ch 2 space. (Ch 3 + dc 2 + ch 2 + dc 3) in the ch 2 space, ch 1. Continue (dc 3 + ch 2 + dc 3) in the next ch 2 space, ch 1, repeat around for six corners with ch 1 spaces between each. Slip stitch in the 3rd ch of initial ch 3 to join the round.
Round 3: Slip stitch to the next ch 2 space. (Ch 3 + dc 2 + ch 2 + dc 3) in the ch 2 space, ch 1, dc 3 in the next ch 1 space, ch 1. Work (dc 3 + ch 2 + dc 3) in the next ch 2 space as a corner, and dc 3 clusters in each ch 1 space around. Join with a slip stitch in the 3rd ch of the initial ch 3.
Rounds 4-7: Repeat Round 3, working dc 3 clusters in every ch 1 space and corners in every ch 2 space. Slip stitch to join each round.
Optional Color Change: You can change colors every round or at any desired round. For this pattern, we used two colors, changing colors at Round 5.
Size Adjustment: To create a larger size, work more rounds. For a smaller size, use a lighter yarn, a smaller hook size, and fewer rounds.
Construction
- Forming the Slipper: Fold the hexagon with the wrong side inside to create an “L” shape.
- Joining: Slip stitch along the edge to close the slipper, leaving the top portion open for the ankle.
Toe
- Begin the Toe: Attach yarn to the toe area, ch 1, sc in the first stitch, sc in the next stitch, and continue around the toe area with sc in each stitch.
- Round 2: Work another round of sc stitches.
- Form the Toe Shape: Using a tapestry needle, sew the top point of the slipper’s toe area and pull tight to create a rounded toe shape. Secure and weave in the ends.
Finishing
- Upper Cuff: Introduce yarn to the open upper part of the slipper.
- Round 1: Ch 1, sc in the first stitch and around each stitch; join with a slip stitch to the first stitch.
- Round 2: Ch 1, dc in the first stitch and around each stitch; join with a slip stitch.
- Round 3: Ch 1, sc in the first stitch and around; join with a slip stitch.
- Optional Hanging Loop: Chain 10 and slip stitch to the last stitch to form a loop for hanging, transforming your slipper into a fun Christmas stocking.
