With color A, chain 3 and join with a slip stitch to form a ring.
Chain 3 (counts as a double crochet here and throughout).
Work 11 double crochets into the ring.
Join the main color (MC) with a slip stitch to the top of the initial chain 3.
You should have a total of 12 double crochets.

Round 2:

With MC, chain 3.
With color A, work a front post double crochet (dcfp) around the chain 3 from the previous round.
With MC, work a double crochet in the next double crochet. With A, work a dcfp around the same double crochet.
Repeat from * to * 10 more times.
Join MC with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 3.
You should have a total of 24 stitches.

Round 3:

With MC, chain 3.
Work 1 double crochet in the same space as the last slip stitch.
With A, work a dcfp around the next dcfp.
With MC, work 2 double crochets in the next double crochet. With A, work a dcfp around the next dcfp.
Repeat from * to * 10 more times.
Join MC with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 3.
You should have a total of 36 stitches.

Round 4:

Follow similar instructions as round 3, adjusting the stitch counts accordingly.
Join MC with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 3.
You should have a total of 48 stitches.

Round 5:

Follow similar instructions as round 3, adjusting the stitch counts accordingly.
Break color A at the end of this round.
You should have a total of 60 stitches.

Round 6:

With MC, chain 7 (this counts as a treble crochet and a chain 3).
Work stitches in the back loops only as instructed, following the pattern provided.
Join with a slip stitch to the 4th chain of the initial chain 7.

Round 7:

Chain 1.
Work single crochet stitches as instructed, making increases where indicated.
Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet.
Fasten off at the end of this round.
You should have a total of 84 single crochets.

Assembly:

Sew motifs together into strips, with 7 motifs in each strip.
Sew strips together to form the blanket.

Edging:

Round 1:

With the right side facing, join MC with a slip stitch in the back loop only to the top left corner single crochet.
Work single crochet stitches in the back loops only around the entire edge of the blanket, making increases at the corners.
Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet.
You should have a total of 584 single crochets.

Rounds 2 to 4:

Chain 1.
Work single crochet stitches in the back loops only around the entire edge of the blanket, making increases at the corners.
Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet.
Repeat this round for a total of three rounds.

Round 5:

With color A, chain 1.
Work reverse single crochet stitches around the edge of the blanket, working from left to right instead of right to left.
Join with a slip stitch to the first reverse single crochet.
Fasten off at the end of this round.
